THE MISSION

The Huffman Family Scholarship will be given in memory of or in honor of members of the Huffman Family who lived in the Pawnee Heights School District, graduated from Burdett or Pawnee Heights High School and/or taught or worked in the Burdett or Pawnee Heights School Districts throughout the years.

APPLICATIONS DUE: 3/29/2024

In the year 2022, the scholarship award will be $1000 and then from 2023 on the award will be $2000. In 2023, the $2000 will be split with $1000 awarded upon graduation from high school. The additional $1000 will be awarded at the beginning of the student’s junior year of college, provided the student has maintained a GPA of 3.00 or better, and is continuing in the original curriculum – see item #2 under “Requirements”; below.

The student will be required to submit to Southern Illinois Community Foundation a copy of their current transcript before the second $1000 can be awarded).

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Graduating senior from Pawnee Heights High School, continuing education at an accredited junior college, technical institute, 4 year college or university

 

Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible, a student must:

  1. Be a graduating senior from Pawnee Heights High School

  2. Plan to attend a community college, four-year college or university to pursue a degree in elementary education, or become certified to teach science or mathematics at the middle and/or high school level, or pursue a degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) professional field.

  3. Describe involvement in school and community activities

  4. Submit two Letters of Recommendation

*If for any reason Pawnee Heights High School is forced to close its doors, the Huffman Family Scholarship will still be available to students who live in the former Pawnee Heights District regardless of the high school they might be attending.
